Class Eleven in London
Class Eleven spent five days in London exploring world religions. They visited the Central Mosque for a talk and midday prayer. On another day, they attended Evensong at Westminster Abbey. The New West End Synagogue opened its doors for the Class to experience the spectacular interior and a friendly talk by one of the elders. That was followed by a brief visit to a Greek Orthodox church with its Byzantine splendour. Another building inspired by early Christian architecture, the Westminster Cathedral, saw the Class partake in Vespers. The Wimbledon based Buddhist temple made them all wonder at the wall paintings, and the meditation and talk by a monk made the religion more tangible for us all.
The trip was an extension of their studies into Early Medieval Europe earlier this year, featuring the birth of Islam and the formation of the early Christian Church.
