Class 5 Play

Prometheus, the Fire-Bringer by Arthur Auer, performed by Class 5

This spirited Class 5 offered up 2 lines at the start of their play:

‘ Let enthusiasm, the god within us, make our words alive.

To be more than ourselves we humbly now do strive.’

…and having spoken them, they were indeed transformed into Gods and Heroes of Ancient Greece going about their deeds both fair and foul: creating man and beast, then thoughtlessly giving all the best gifts to the animals – thus inducing the brave, fair-minded Prometheus to steal Zeus’ fire and give it to Man. He then had to face his awful punishment – which he did with grace and honour. The children of Class 5 decided to put this play on almost by themselves and it was in every way beautifully done. One felt that they were totally present in their individual roles yet held together as one. Word-perfect, with clear speech, using the whole stage, with fine costumes and props of their own design, they must be congratulated – along with their teacher, Laura. (Some say she helped a bit!)
