A look back at our Christmas Celebrations 2022
How wonderful to have some truly crisp and icy (almost white!) winter weather during which to experience our heart-warming, image rich, light-filled celebrations. The exceptionally lovely Advent Gardens, when each child collected, carried and placed their own glowing light in amongst the soft dark moss and hard glimmering crystals of the spiral, announced the start. Brief ceremonies followed every day in the classrooms until we came together again for Lucia – the festival of light. This comes to us from Sweden and was performed by students from the Upper School with Marika, and sung, with grace and beauty – and in impeccable Swedish.
That was barely over when everyone was called back in for the Christmas Pageant. Every Class offered something: Class 8 brought a brand new topical, engaging and witty introduction. Upper School students gave an impressive performance of the Fall of Lucifer in Eurythmy which was followed and contrasted beautifully with Class 3’s moving Creation play. There followed plays which led us through from the holy birth of the Christ Child to the delight expressed by Class 2’s enthusiastic elements, beast and birds, Class 4’s joyful shepherds, angry wives and miserable slaves, Class 5’s dignified and gracious Kings, and Class 6’s omen-led Roman soldiers; not to forget Class 1’s tiny angels led sweetly around the sleeping, dreaming shepherds. The whole was full of music.
The closing words: ‘A wish we bring into this hall – a Merry Christmas to you all!’
