A Journey through the History of Music

Class 8s end of term concert

End of year concert 2013 – Class 8

review by Caroline Doherty, parent

As parents, we are often taken aback at the quality and beauty of the work our children produce at school. Sometimes, it comes as a complete surprise as we had absolutely no idea what they were up to (and I am speaking personally here!).

We had one such experience on Friday, 10th May, when Class 8 presented their special, end of year concert. They took us on a journey through the history of music, from traditional English folk to the great composers such as Tchaikovsky and Mozart.  We enjoyed orchestral and choral performances from some of the most iconic musicals of the twentieth century, including Showboat, Porgy and Bess, and West Side Story. They brought their montage up to date with a medley of award-winning film scores from Titanic, The Fellowship of the Ring and Les Miserables, to name but a few.

Throughout, the musical performances were interwoven seamlessly with dramatic cameos and visual humour which added depth and variety to the concert. The good-natured courage and talent of the soloists and the enthusiastic participation of the whole class was a joy to see. Class Eight parents would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Music Teacher, Sandi Weir, for the amazing effort and imagination that went into producing such a memorable event and for the work that she has done with our children over the years.

And, of course, thank you, and well done, to Class Eight.
